CBT backs series for classic Volkswagens / CBT Classic VW Challenge

Cambridge Business Travel has been confirmed as the title sponsor of the 2015 Classic VW Challenge, a new series for drivers of pre-2003 models from the Volkswagen group. Organised by the Classic Touring Car Racing Club, the series will feature races at the eight CTCRC race meetings between the end of March and early October.

CBT’s Stuart Scott, who raced a Beetle in the Big Boys Toys Beetle Cup in the mid-1990s and who went on to campaign a Beetle RSi in the Volkswagen Racing Cup, says he is delighted to see a new championship set up to meet the needs of owners of older track machinery: “Some of the older racing Volkswagens are absolutely beautiful cars but of course they cannot keep up with the pace of development and the more modern cars being introduced to the established championships. So it’s great to see a new series dedicated to the older cars; I’m sure the competition is going to be close and exciting.”

The series is the brainchild of club racer Ken Lark and serial VW racer Ian Fowler. Both Ken and Ian bring a vast amount on knowledge from their years involved in motor racing. Ken has been campaigning his VR6 Corrado for more than 12 years in various championships in the UK, while Ian has a wealth of knowledge, having worked in everything from single stage rallying to the BTCC.

The Cambridge Business Travel Classic VW Challenge is set to get underway at Silverstone over the weekend of 28/29 March.
